Galleries
For over ten years I spent a large portion of my time traveling thruoughout the country, primarily the East
Coast, attending numerous figure-skating events. Whether photographing a competition or an exhibition, a
professional or an amateur event, I strive to show the beauty and drama particular to both the sport and the
art of figure-skating.
Whether photographing the modern highrise buildings of the corporate capital of the world, the 19th century beauty
of Central Park, or the rundown worn-out surroundings of the Lower East Side, from the first moment I picked up a
camera, I have always been inspired by my hometown.
A 26-mile long barrier beach off of Long Island, Fire Island has long been one of my favorite places in the world.
It is like something out of another era. Allowing no cars other than service vehicles, red wagons and bikes are the
main modes of transportation, deer wander everywhere and children roam free selling lemonade and painted shells.
Each of its 17 communities has its own distinctive personality, from summer singles party town to proudly gay and
socially active to Norman Rockwell family-oriented.
From my first visit to our nation's capital in 1989, it has been a love affair for me with this beautiful city of wide
avenues, green park space and clean white landmarks. Whether photographing vast panoramas or the small
details of Washington, I continue to find this the most beautiful of U.S. cities.
As I've traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad, both to skating events and for recreation, my camera is never
far from me. I love to explore and see the diffrences throughout our country and the world, and always welcome
the chance to discover the specialness in a new place.
I've always been drawn to the beauty I saw in nature while hiking as a child, the simplicity of a rural
scene. Still my original love.
As much as I've always loved the vast panoramas of nature, I've also always been drawn to the small details
of the world - the beauty of a single flower, the simplicity of dewdrops on a small plant, the quietness of a still-life.
I have also always been fascinated by the complexity that can be found in these small things, in what I call 'natural
abstractions'. This gallery celebrates all those small, simple things and moments that make life beautiful.
For as long as I can remember, my love of animals has been a major part of my life. I find their behavior
endlessly fascinating and feel we can learn something about ourselves by studying how they view us. I have
often tried to capture this on film. Whether in the wild, wild animals kept in a zoo, or my own pets, they are
one of my favorite photographic subjects.
Now Showing: CONEY ISLAND
In this gallery I hope to celebrate the history and present of Coney Island, America's first great public beach and
amusement park. Like so many other native New Yorkers, in my childhood summer was defined by days spent
at Coney Island, playing in the waves at the beach, riding The King Horse at the B&B Carousell (spelled with two
"l"s!), daring to ride the Wonder Wheel with its swinging outer cars or the great Cyclone Rollercoaster. Now
slated for massive redevelopment, the Coney Island of my childhood and of the childhoods of generations
before mine has possibly already seen its last summer. With this gallery I seek to honor the exciting,
colorful, tacky and tawdry, rundown joy that is Coney Island as so many New Yorkers know it.
